When our client, American multinational conglomerate General Electric bought a marketing leading Oil & Gas company, the executive team envisioned a workspace that would convey a message of strength, experience, consolidated expertise, and it’s resulting value to the oil & gas industry. With both companies sharing values in innovation, collaboration, and diversity and inclusion, it was crucial for the new workspace design to facilitate a seamless transition into the new entity, as well as enforce a sense of pride and engagement within the new workforce.
We worked with the facilities and project management team to design furniture solutions with a contemporary aesthetic, yet one that was functional and relevant to their team’s mode of work. The workspaces at the new building is a mix of closed and open office areas – privacy for executives and team-based, individual workstations for non-executives. The layout allows for plenty of space to travel in between different sections of the open offices. Canadian manufacturer and our most experienced partner Teknion provided a comprehensive solution for all operative workstation requirements.
On the ground floor, the center of the space is lined with clusters of upStage workstations in the center that are flagged on the sides by clusters of workstations from the Interpret series. Each upStage desk is fitted with low credenza storage units on the sides. The contemporary leg detail unique to the upStage series adds on the aesthetic value of the design.
The closed offices are fitted with upStage desks configured in an executive setting, with large return units and overhead storage units. A superb addition to each desk is the Humanscale Freedom Chair, ideal for long hours spent indoors. Meeting rooms have our stunning Plenum Tables from Konig+Neurath; the leg detail allows us to be discreet with the wires. The Contessa chairs from Teknion, complete with full ergonomic support, add on the sophistication of the meeting room design.
There’s no hiding it, we’re particularly proud of the workspace solutions provided for this project. The building and the office in its entirety is an example of a well-executed layout and a space that enables agile working and collaboration.
